The Lagos State Government has directed all e-hailing operators to present their vehicles for mandatory inspection as part of efforts to improve safety, service quality, and regulatory compliance in the state’s transportation sector.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the decision followed the discovery of several e-hailing vehicles in poor condition. He explained that a comprehensive audit of all registered vehicles will be carried out, and any deemed unfit will be barred from operating on Lagos roads.

Osiyemi raised concerns over safety lapses, poor service delivery, and the absence of robust databases among some platforms, which makes it harder to track security breaches and criminal activities. He warned that sanctions would be enforced against operators who fail to comply.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olawale Musa, stressed that all drivers must be registered and certified by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute. He cautioned that unregistered vehicles pose serious security risks and that licenses of non-compliant operators could be suspended.

Musa added that the ministry’s new digital monitoring system relies on updated data for effective regulation. He urged residents to avoid booking rides offline to ensure they benefit from the safety and accountability features provided by official e-hailing apps.
