An oil and gas expert, Maurice Ibe, has lamented that despite corrupt practices in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, no one has gone to jail.
Ibe said this on Monday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.
He was speaking on the level of ‘corruption’ that has bedevilled Nigeria over the years.
“$25 billion and counting has been put into refineries’ turnaround maintenance, and nothing to show for it. Nobody has gone to prison, and not even a serious investigation has been done.
“The truth of the matter is that not just this government, most of the prior governments, nobody has ever really been serious about what is happening in NNPC.
“It has been a cash cow for politicians, and because it’s been a cash cow for politicians, the politicians in power tend to protect those who are deep in corruption and who are making sure these refineries wouldn’t work and shouldn’t work.
“You have a situation where you spend, just in the last couple of years, $1.5 billion on these refineries and nothing to show for it,” he lamented.
