The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has called on residents to always maintain a clean environment and shun any act capable of causing environmental hazards.
The Governor, who stated this in Ado Ekiti during the 2025 World Clean-up Day, noted that there is a need to maintain a hygienic environment for healthy living and safety of lives.
Governor Oyebanji, represented by the Director General of the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority, Sunkanmi Onipede, explained that the present administration had put in place different measures to prevent epidemics and natural disasters.
He appealed to fashion designers and others to ensure proper disposal of their unwanted fabrics in line with the theme of this year’s World Clean-up Day: “Tackling Textile and Fashion Waste through Circular Fashion.”
The DG disclosed that an additional sixty Dano bins and three waste trucks had been procured, alongside other measures such as the establishment of a recycling plant at Ilokun, Ekiti, to promote proper waste disposal and reduce hazards associated with burning waste or littering streets.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Oludare Asaolu, cautioned residents against dumping refuse on waterways, drainage channels, and road medians, stressing that such practices could lead to flooding, epidemics, and other disasters.
In their goodwill messages, representatives of NEMA, Red Cross, and TGED commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for releasing funds for the celebration of this year’s World Clean-up Day and promised to support the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority in preventing disasters in the state.
To commemorate the Day, participants moved through Fajuyi, Ijigbo, Oja Bisi, and Oja Oba, all in Ado Ekiti, to sensitise residents on the need to embrace healthy living and stop harmful environmental practices.
