President Bola Tinubu has appointed Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the exit of Sanusi Garba from the role.

A statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the nomination, noting that Ramat will assume the position in an acting capacity pending Senate screening, in line with statutory requirements.

Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator, holding a doctorate in Strategic Management along with other academic and professional qualifications.

President Tinubu has also put forward the names of Abubakar Yusuf for the role of Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

To forestall any leadership vacuum in the regulatory agency, the President directed that Ramat should step in immediately, even as his confirmation by the Senate is awaited.

The statement further conveyed the President’s call for the new nominees to bring their expertise to bear in executing their duties and to contribute actively towards achieving the administration’s objectives in the power sector.
