Troops of Sector 9 of the Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, have neutralised four suspected kidnappers and recovered sophisticated weapons and ammunition during an operation in the Pandam Forest, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A statement by the media arm of the Task Force confirming the operation on Saturday, said the troops successfully carried out the mop-up in the forest on April 29th at about 5:20 p.m. following credible intelligence on the location of the kidnappers in the dense forest.
According to the statement, the operation conducted in collaboration with a STRATOC drone team and two previously arrested suspects, advanced to a suspected hideout following earlier arrests and recovery of ransom at Bauna village in Shendam Local Government Area on April 25.
“Troops made contact with the kidnappers at the hideout and engaged them in a firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of four suspects,” the statement said.
It added that the two earlier apprehended suspects were among those neutralised as they attempted to escape during the operation.
“Troops are currently exploiting the general area in ongoing efforts to dismantle remaining criminal elements and enhance security,” the statement added.
