Peter Obi Meets Outgoing UK Envoy, Swiss Ambassador, Reveals What They Discussed
Abuja, Nigeria – Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has continued his diplomatic engagements with members of the international community, holding separate meetings with the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, and the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, where discussions centred on Nigeria’s democracy, economy, governance and development.
The meetings, held in Abuja, come amid growing international interest in Nigeria’s political and economic future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi, Outgoing UK High Commissioner Discuss Democracy
In his meeting with Richard Montgomery, who is concluding his diplomatic assignment in Nigeria next month, Obi said they had a frank and constructive conversation on the country’s democratic journey and governance.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the discussions focused on the state of Nigeria’s democracy, economic challenges, strengthening public institutions, and the need to guarantee free, fair and credible elections that truly reflect the will of the people.
Obi thanked Montgomery for his contributions to strengthening diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, describing his tenure as one marked by constructive engagement and support for democratic values.
Meeting with Swiss Ambassador Focuses on Development
Obi also met separately with Swiss Ambassador Patrick Egloff, where both men explored areas of collaboration aimed at advancing Nigeria’s development.
He disclosed that their discussions centred on improving education, healthcare, poverty reduction, economic growth and expanding development partnerships between Nigeria and Switzerland.
Obi commended the Swiss government for its longstanding support to Nigeria in humanitarian assistance, peace-building efforts, economic development and institutional reforms.
According to him, stronger international partnerships built on mutual respect and shared development goals remain critical to unlocking Nigeria’s enormous potential.
Growing Diplomatic Engagements
The two meetings are part of Obi’s increasing engagements with diplomats and international stakeholders as conversations around governance, economic reforms and the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
