Businessman and political commentator Isaac Fayose has claimed that five serving governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are secretly supporting Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Fayose made the claim in a video shared on his social-media platform, saying the unnamed governors had allegedly agreed to provide financial support for the NDC’s electoral operations while keeping their identities secret because they remain APC members.
However, none of the five governors has been publicly identified or independently confirmed the allegation.
Why Fayose says the governors are backing the NDC
According to Fayose, the alleged governors are particularly concerned about the political influence of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He claimed the governors’ condition was that Wike should not be allowed to deliver either Rivers or the FCT for the APC in 2027.
Fayose said he questioned their position, arguing that neither Wike nor the APC was sufficiently popular in the two areas.
According to his account, however, the governors’ concern was not simply popularity but what they allegedly believed could happen during the collation and announcement of election results.
Fayose further alleged that the governors had offered to support NDC polling agents with ₦200,000 per polling unit in Rivers and the FCT if the agents stood against what he described as electoral manipulation.

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, said after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on September 15 that the governors had resolved not to support candidates who were not contesting on the APC platform.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma said.
The forum said its campaign commitment would remain exclusively with APC candidates.
That public position contrasts sharply with Fayose’s allegation of covert support from five APC governors for the NDC.
