Akwanga–Jos Bypass Opens: What It Means for Travellers to Plateau
A new 5.2-kilometre bypass on the Akwanga–Jos axis has been inaugurated in Nasarawa State, providing motorists travelling towards Jos with an alternative route around Akwanga town.
The bypass was inaugurated on Saturday by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, as part of activities marking the state’s 30th anniversary.
The governor said the road was designed to reduce traffic congestion and accidents in Akwanga while improving economic activities around the area.
For motorists heading towards Jos from the Keffi or Gudi axis, the new road is expected to reduce the need to pass through the centre of Akwanga.

That could mean less time spent in traffic and easier movement for commercial vehicles and private motorists travelling towards Plateau.
The project is also significant for traders and businesses because the Akwanga–Jos corridor is an important route linking parts of Nasarawa with Plateau State.
