The controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has taken an international dimension after a United States-based lobbying and strategic advisory firm publicly expressed its willingness to assist Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in seeking asylum and whistleblower protection.
The development follows a statement by Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., led by Dr. Karl Von Batten, which said it is interested in speaking with Adeyemi regarding allegations he has made in connection with the PFIPC controversy.
In a statement published on its official X account, the firm said:
“To anyone in contact with Mr. Adeyemi, we are very interested in speaking with him. We are prepared to assist Mr. Adeyemi in seeking asylum in the United States and requesting whistleblower protection.”
The firm argued that if the allegations involve funds connected to international development institutions such as the World Bank, the matter could attract wider international attention because the United States is the World Bank’s largest shareholder.
It stated that any credible allegations involving internationally funded resources would be of significant interest to relevant U.S. authorities. However, the firm did not provide evidence proving the allegations against any Nigerian public official.
The lobbying firm also issued a public warning addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, stating:
“To the government of President Bola Tinubu and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila: If any harm comes to Mr. Adeyemi, we will call for a full investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable.”
The statement has intensified international interest in the controversy, although it does not confirm the accuracy of Adeyemi’s claims.
Rather, it emphasizes the importance of protecting individuals who present themselves as whistleblowers and ensuring that any allegations of public corruption are investigated through lawful and transparent processes.
Adeyemi has made several allegations involving senior government officials. However, none of those allegations has been proven in court.
The Presidency has consistently denied the claims, maintaining that the alleged PFIPC is not a recognised government agency and that Adeyemi is facing criminal charges, including allegations of forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. The matter is currently before a competent court.
The Federal Government has also directed relevant anti-corruption agencies to investigate issues surrounding the PFIPC controversy.
Political analysts say the involvement of a U.S.-based lobbying firm could increase calls for an independent investigation.
However, there is currently no official indication that the United States government has granted or is processing asylum for Adeyemi, and no international agency has announced a formal investigation into the allegations.
