2027: Abure-Led Labour Party Faction Unveils
Kennedy Ahanotu as Presidential Candidate
Abuja, Nigeria – The faction of the Labour Party led by National Chairman Julius Abure has announced Prince Kennedy Ahanotu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the faction’s presidential, governorship, and House of Representatives primaries held in Abuja.
Representing the party chairman at the event, Deputy National Chairman Ayo Olorunfemi formally presented Ahanotu, who currently serves as the party’s National Youth Leader, as the faction’s standard-bearer for the 2027 presidential race.
Accepting the nomination, Ahanotu described the development as a significant responsibility and pledged to work towards strengthening the party and advancing Nigeria’s development.
He said the nomination came with a mandate to unite members, deepen internal democracy, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, and reposition the Labour Party for future electoral success.
“I proudly accept the nomination of our great party as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. I pledge never to take the confidence reposed in me for granted,” he said.
Ahanotu also extended an olive branch to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, calling for reconciliation within the party amid ongoing leadership disputes.
According to him, the Labour Party belongs to all members across the federation and should not be viewed as a project of any particular state or individual.
He expressed confidence that Governor Otti would embrace efforts aimed at unifying the party, stressing that collective action remains crucial to the Labour Party’s future.
The development comes amid continuing leadership disagreements within the Labour Party, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
