Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru has emerged as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly after winning the party’s primary election, weeks after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Osawaru, who is married to Nigerian music icon 2Baba, recently joined the NDC as part of a growing wave of defections to the opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The 31-year-old politician was formally received into the party at its national headquarters in Abuja alongside former Gombe State Deputy Governor John Yoriyo and other political stakeholders.

A video shared on the party’s official Facebook page showed Osawaru being welcomed by top NDC leaders, including former Bayelsa State governor and party leader Seriake Dickson.

Before securing the party’s ticket, Osawaru had already declared her intention to seek re-election under the NDC platform.

In a move that quickly generated reactions on social media, the lawmaker playfully reinterpreted the party’s acronym. Rather than

Nigeria Democratic Congress, she described NDC as “Natasha Don Come,” a slogan that has since gained traction among supporters and political observers.

Speaking on her decision to leave the PDP, Osawaru said she believes the NDC offers a fresh platform to promote people-centred governance, youth empowerment, improved security, and community development in Edo State.

Her emergence as the party’s candidate is expected to boost the NDC’s growing presence in Edo State as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections.
