Former Director of Mobilisation of the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has publicly apologised to Peter Obi and members of the Obidient Movement, months after resigning from his role amid internal disagreements.

Monye made the apology in a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, admitting that his resignation letter written in November 2025 was influenced by frustration and emotion.

The former movement official had earlier resigned following dissatisfaction with the coordination of the movement and the outcome of the Anambra governorship election.

At the time, he claimed he personally financed several mobilisation activities across the country without support from the movement’s leadership.

However, in his latest statement, Monye admitted that some of the comments he made about Peter Obi were unnecessary and inappropriate.

According to him:
“In that letter, I allowed deep frustration and personal emotions to cloud my judgment. I made statements that subtly and unnecessarily dragged Peter Obi, a man I still respect for his vision, integrity, and sacrifice for this nation. That was wrong.”

He added that the resignation letter was entirely his responsibility and acknowledged the disappointment many supporters felt afterward.

Monye also offered a direct apology to Obi, saying:

“Sir, I am sincerely sorry. My words were not a true reflection of the values of sacrifice, accountability, and constructive criticism that you preach. I failed in that moment.”

The businessman further apologised to members of the Obidient Movement, especially young supporters who believed strongly in the vision of a better Nigeria.

He stressed that his apology was not motivated by political ambition or a desire to regain relevance but because “it is the right thing to do.”

Meanwhile, reactions on social media and online forums have remained divided. While some supporters welcomed the apology and called for unity ahead of the 2027 political season, critics questioned Monye’s motives and sincerity.

Several commenters on X  (Twitter) suggested the apology may be connected to renewed political momentum surrounding Peter Obi and the growing alliance talks ahead of the next general election.

Others, however, described the apology as mature and necessary, arguing that political movements require reconciliation and internal healing to remain strong.

Peter Obi has yet to publicly respond to Monye’s apology as of the time of filing this report.
