Gbajabiamila Bribery Allegation.

Nigeria (SAN) and renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has joined the legal team representing Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in the ongoing criminal trial arising from allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Falana made his first appearance for the defendant as proceedings commenced before the Federal High Court in Abuja, adding a significant legal dimension to a case that has continued to attract national attention.

Prince Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge filed by the Federal Government, bordering on alleged conspiracy, forgery, impersonation, and the use of forged State House and presidential documents.

The prosecution alleges that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the Presidency says does not exist.

The charges stem from a controversy that erupted after Adeyemi publicly alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, demanded ₦400 million, an additional ₦200 million, and a 48 percent stake in a proposed ₦27.4 billion take-off grant in exchange for facilitating his appointment to head a federal agency.

However, Gbajabiamila has strongly denied the allegations. The Presidency, through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the claims as false and maintained that investigations by security agencies showed Adeyemi was never appointed to any federal office.

According to the Federal Government, investigations revealed that Adeyemi allegedly forged presidential appointment letters and other official State House documents. Prosecutors also claimed he impersonated a senior government official by presenting himself as the head of a non-existent government agency.

Despite the charges, Adeyemi has maintained his innocence and insists that his allegations against Gbajabiamila are genuine.

He has repeatedly called for an independent investigation into the matter and expressed confidence that the judicial process will vindicate him.

Falana’s decision to join the defence team is expected to intensify public interest in the trial, given his reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost constitutional and human rights lawyers.

Legal analysts believe his involvement could significantly shape the defence strategy as the case progresses.

The Federal High Court adjourned the matter to a later date for the continuation of trial.
