The Plateau State chapter of the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association (PLABOMA) on Tuesday hosted the 2026 World Social Media Day, with the Plateau State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs. Kaneng Pam Hworo, delivering the keynote address on the theme, “Digital Voices: Innovation, Creativity and Youth Engagement.”
The event, held at Usuji Events Centre, Jos, brought together bloggers, online publishers, social media influencers, content creators, government officials, and security agencies to discuss the role of digital platforms in shaping society and empowering young people.
Speaking during her keynote address, Mrs. Hworo urged Nigerian youths to embrace innovation and creativity by using social media to promote positive values, community development, entrepreneurship, and national unity.
She warned against the misuse of digital platforms for internet fraud, drug abuse, misinformation, cybercrime, and other social vices, stressing that the future of the country’s digital ecosystem depends on responsible online behaviour.
According to her, social media should be seen as a powerful tool for education, economic empowerment, civic participation, and showcasing the rich culture and positive stories emerging from Plateau State and Nigeria.
The NOA Director also challenged bloggers, online publishers, and digital influencers to uphold professionalism, credibility, and ethical standards by using their platforms to spread verified information, inspire hope, promote peace, and project the positive image of their communities.
She noted that digital voices have become powerful instruments for shaping public opinion and influencing societal development, making responsible communication more important than ever.
The event attracted a large audience comprising leading bloggers, online media practitioners, content creators, influencers, students, and youth groups.
It was also attended by top government officials and senior representatives of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and other stakeholders.
Participants described the gathering as an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration among digital media professionals while encouraging young people to become responsible ambassadors in the online space.
Headlineswave.ng was on ground to provide live coverage of the event, which concluded with renewed calls for ethical digital engagement, innovation, creativity, and youth participation in national development.
