2027: Amaechi’s Channels TV Interview Changes Political Narrative, Says Tinubu Allies Wouldn’t Have Insulted Sultan
Former Rivers State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Rotimi Amaechi, has sparked fresh political debate after a widely watched interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he suggested that supporters of President Bola Tinubu would not have reacted the same way if the Sultan of Sokoto had criticized the Federal Government.
Responding to questions from Seun Okin, Amaechi argued that Christian leaders have faced harsher attacks for speaking out against the country’s economic hardship than prominent Muslim leaders.
When asked whether the President’s supporters would have insulted the Sultan if he had publicly challenged Tinubu over the state of the nation, Amaechi replied:
“They wouldn’t have. Today, there are people preaching in the mosques about what is happening in Tinubu’s government. Have they been insulted? We are being insulted because we are Christians.”
The former Minister of Transportation’s remarks have since triggered intense reactions across social media and political circles.
Supporters say Amaechi highlighted what they describe as unequal treatment of religious leaders in Nigeria’s political space, while critics argue that introducing religion into the country’s already heated political climate could deepen existing divisions.
