Sowore Alleges DSS DG Avoided Court, Unveils ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Bag After Hearing
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has claimed that the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, failed to appear in court because he was “afraid” to testify in the ongoing criminal defamation case against him.
Speaking to journalists after proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Sowore also displayed a bag bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go,” which drew attention from supporters and the media.
According to reports, Ajayi did not appear in court despite a subpoena. Court proceedings revealed that the DSS argued the Director-General had not been personally served, although records indicated the subpoena had been delivered to the agency’s Director of Legal Services.
Sowore told journalists that the DSS boss was deliberately avoiding cross-examination, insisting the security chief had “run away from court.”
However, this remains Sowore’s allegation and has not been independently confirmed by the court.
The case is linked to allegations arising from comments made by Sowore describing President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal.” The activist has maintained that the charges are politically motivated and an attack on freedom of expression, while the prosecution argues the remarks amount to criminal defamation and related offences.
The matter has been adjourned as the court continues hearing the case. The DSS has not publicly responded to Sowore’s latest remarks outside the courtroom.
