What God Told Him to Tell the South-East About Tinubu – Umahi Reveals
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stirred political debate after declaring that God sent him to deliver a message to the people of the South-East regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Umahi made the remarks while defending the Tinubu administration’s record on infrastructure development in the South-East, insisting that the region is receiving unprecedented federal attention.
According to the minister, many people have criticized and insulted him for openly supporting the President, but he remains convinced that history will vindicate his position.
“And that’s why they insult me, and I enjoy the insults, because tomorrow they will find out that God sent me at a time like this to tell you the truth. The President has good intentions to integrate the people of the South-East,” Umahi said.
The former Ebonyi State governor argued that President Tinubu is making deliberate efforts to address what he described as longstanding neglect of the South-East through major infrastructure projects and strategic appointments.
He specifically pointed to ongoing road construction projects across the region, including work on the Enugu-Onitsha corridor, as evidence of the administration’s commitment.
Umahi further claimed that his appointment as Minister of Works has helped the South-East secure significant federal projects that might otherwise have been difficult to attract.
“If I am not a minister from the South-East, we wouldn’t be able to get the projects we have gotten. It is an intentional act by Mr. President to right the wrongs of the South-East,” he stated.
The comments are likely to generate mixed reactions across the region, where political opinions remain sharply divided over Tinubu’s administration and the direction of national politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
While supporters of the government may view Umahi’s remarks as an acknowledgment of increased federal investment in the South-East, critics are expected to argue that infrastructure projects alone cannot settle wider concerns about economic hardship, insecurity, and political inclusion.
Nevertheless, Umahi remains one of the administration’s most vocal defenders in the South-East, maintaining that President Tinubu’s policies and projects demonstrate a genuine commitment to the region’s development.
