Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory, has allegedly been hospitalized following the violent disturbance that erupted at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Abuja.

According to information reaching headlineswave.ng, the senator was reportedly admitted for medical observation after sustaining injuries during the incident.

Kingibe had earlier accused one Tijani Mubarak and his associates of physically attacking her and other party members during the disruption at the party’s state secretariat in Gudu, Abuja.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the senator described the incident as “barbaric,” “premeditated,” and “a direct attack on democracy, the rule of law, and the safety of women participating in Nigerian politics.”

According to her, the disturbance started while party officials and aspirants were observing the distribution of materials for the ADC National Assembly primary elections.

She explained that the exercise had initially progressed peacefully before tension escalated after Mubarak allegedly confronted the chairman of the primary election committee.

Kingibe claimed the situation turned violent after the committee chairman was allegedly assaulted during the confrontation, while a female House of Representatives aspirant was also reportedly attacked after attempting to record the incident on her phone.

The senator further alleged that one of the attackers grabbed her and pushed her violently against a wall, causing injuries to her head.

She said her security personnel later intervened and prevented further assault.

Kingibe also alleged that the attackers locked exit doors within the building, trapping several individuals inside the premises during the chaos.

The senator disclosed that she later sought medical attention at Wuse General Hospital after experiencing severe headaches and blurred vision.

Fresh reports now indicate that the lawmaker has been hospitalized for further treatment and monitoring following the incident.

She has called on the Inspector General of Police and the FCT Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter and prosecute all those allegedly involved.

“As one of the few women serving in the Nigerian Parliament, the physical assault on my person and the manhandling of female aspirants must not be ignored,” she stated.

Kingibe added that the incident would not stop her from carrying out her constitutional duties or advocating for transparency and justice in the FCT.
