The Plateau State Government has clarified the status of the ₦1 billion donation made by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to victims of violent attacks in the state, insisting that the fund has not been shared out as alleged by some critics.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief programme on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said the donation remains intact and has not been disbursed.
According to her, the state government deliberately decided to keep the fund while working to mobilize additional resources that would enable a more comprehensive intervention for affected communities.
Ramnap explained that the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang wants to ensure that the money is utilized strategically and transparently to address the long-term needs of victims rather than being hurriedly distributed without a sustainable framework.
The ₦1 billion donation was announced by Mrs. Tinubu during her condolence visit to Plateau State on July 3, 2025, following a series of deadly attacks on rural communities.
The First Lady made the donation through her Renewed Hope Initiative to support victims, vulnerable persons, and humanitarian efforts in the state.
She emphasized at the time that the funds were not from government coffers but were raised through private contributions and goodwill donations.
During the visit to Jos, Mrs. Tinubu appealed for peace and reconciliation among communities, stressing that the cycle of violence must end.
She also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to work together to restore harmony and protect lives across Plateau State.
The clarification by the Plateau State Government comes amid growing public concerns and social media allegations suggesting that the donation had either been diverted or secretly distributed.
However, the government maintains that the money remains available and will be deployed as part of a broader intervention package once additional funding and implementation structures are finalized.
Government officials say the ultimate goal is to ensure that the intervention delivers meaningful support to victims, including rehabilitation, resettlement, and other long-term recovery initiatives for communities devastated by the attacks.
