2027: APC Suffers Fresh Setback as Members Defect to NDC in Kano
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has suffered another political setback following the defection of several party members to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defectors were received into the NDC on Saturday by the party’s senatorial candidate for Kano South, Dr. Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, during a political gathering in Takai Local Government Area.
The development comes amid growing political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
There have been a series of defections involving members and supporters of the APC and the NDC in the state, particularly following the emergence of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as the
NDC’s vice-presidential candidate.
The latest defection is expected to further intensify the political contest in Kano, where rival political camps are working to consolidate their support ahead of the 2027 polls.
Kano remains one of Nigeria’s major political battlegrounds, with the political relationship between Kwankwaso and his former political ally, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, adding another layer to the contest.
