The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has urged Christians across Nigeria to actively participate in the country’s political process, insisting that they must not surrender the responsibility of shaping the nation’s future to others.

Makinde made the call on Sunday, November 8, 2026, during a church service at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, where he described the present political period as a defining moment in Nigeria’s history.

Addressing the congregation, the APM presidential candidate said Nigeria had yet to fulfil its potential for the benefit of all citizens, arguing that those dissatisfied with the country’s direction must take responsibility for contributing to its transformation.

He challenged Christians to discard the perception that politics is inherently dirty or incompatible with their faith, maintaining that withdrawing from political activities would amount to abandoning an important opportunity to influence national decisions.

According to Makinde, Christians must make their voices heard and actively participate in determining the country’s political and developmental direction rather than remain on the sidelines because of concerns about the practices associated with politics.

He also expressed confidence in God’s guidance and support for his presidential ambition, recalling his political journey and urging believers not to allow perceived limitations to discourage them from pursuing positions of responsibility.

COCIN Cleric Preaches on Abounding Grace

Earlier, the Resident Minister of COCIN Headquarters, Rev. Dindam Audu Wuyep, delivered a sermon titled Abounding Grace, drawing inspiration from 2 Timothy 2:1.

The cleric explained that God’s grace should not make believers passive but should empower them to fulfil their divine purpose, overcome limitations and remain faithful despite life’s challenges.

He emphasised that a proper understanding of grace should produce humility, kindness, forgiveness and love rather than pride, reminding Christians that their abilities, positions and achievements are gifts from God.

Rev. Wuyep further encouraged believers to extend God’s grace to others through service, discipleship and mentoring, stressing that Christians should not keep their blessings and opportunities to themselves.

He also reminded the congregation that Christian faith does not guarantee freedom from suffering or opposition, urging believers to depend on God’s grace for the strength to overcome difficulties and finish well.

Makinde Visits ECWA Headquarters

Following the COCIN service, Makinde also visited the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Headquarters Church in Jos, where he reiterated his message on the importance of Christian participation in Nigeria’s political process.

He urged Christians to become more involved in political activities and contribute to decisions that will shape the country’s future.

His visits to the two major Christian institutions formed part of his engagements in Jos amid preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Makinde’s message places renewed attention on the role of religious communities in democratic participation, particularly as political parties and candidates intensify engagements ahead of the 2027 general election.
